  • Kilmore Grotto

The Grotto at Sarshill was built during the Marian Year, 1954. The land for this was donated by Mrs. Polly Cadogan (nee Cullen). The area was also known as Gallows Green, as tradition has it that a priest was actually hanged there years ago. There is no evidence to prove this.

The grotto was built in the same style as the grotto in Inchicore in Dublin. The members of the committee behind the grotto and cemetery were Mike Flynn, Jim Stafford, Jim Monaghan and Mick Magee. Both the grotto and cemetery were built in the early fifties when Fr Paddy Doyle was Parish Priest .
