| St Peter's church is appropriately
named after the patron saint of fishermen. It stands in
a very prominent position on a hill overlooking the spreading
harbour below. For many miles out to sea it is like a sentinel
watching carefully over all who work or travel along the
south coast. |

Walking into the
porch one is struck by the mood created by the large colourful
window on the left. There is a comforting picture of Christ
telling his disciples that he will make them fishers of
men. This sense of closeness increases as one moves into
the main part of the church, with its very basic, but graceful
structure. Its arched ceiling gives it a great sense of
strength, quietness, comfort and protection. |

Most of the windows have beautiful
stained glass. Up at the front is the crucifixion scene.
The two windows on either side near the front contain images
of gospel scenes (below). The other side windows have a
simple design of a cross with Christian symbols. The large
window at the back under the bell tower also depicts scenes
of fishermen with Christ. Together, all these windows help
fill the church with a soft warm light. |

In the sanctuary there is a delicate, but impressive
altar under a simple tabernacle. All is on a raised dais, so
the the sacred action can be seen from all parts of the church.
