  • V. Rev. Denis Doyle, PP.

    He was born in 1947, son of Patrick and Bridget Doyle, nee Cadogan, Ballycullane, New Ross. He received his education in Ballycullane National School, 1952-60, St Peter's College, 1960-65, St Peter's Seminary 1965-71. He was ordained at St Peter's College, Wexford on 6th June 1971.

    After ordination he was sent on loan to the Diocese of Down and Connor, where he worked in Twinbrook, Belfast, until 1974. On his return he was appointed curate in Blackwater and was transferred to Rowe St, Wexford on 3rd July 1976. In July 1986 he joined the Ferns Mission Team in Brazil and remained there until 1996. After a few months learning the language he was appointed in 1987 to Olinda, Recife, just south of the equator. He lived a short distance from Dom Heldar Cámara, who was the retired bishop at the time, and met him quite often during those years. In 1992 he moved north and ministered in the favelas in the diocese of João Pessoa. He was appointed curate in New Ross on 1st July 1996, but returned to Joâo Pessoa, Brazil in September 1998. The bishop of that diocese was Dom José Maria Pires. He was appointed Parish Priest of Kilmore in September 2002.

    Fr Denis Doyle

    He was born in 1954, son of Patrick Cogley and Anna Kelly, Newcastle, Cleariestown. His father died in 1966. He was educated in Kilmannon NS and Wexford Christian Brothers' School. He studied for the priesthood in St Patrick's College, Maynooth. He was ordained in St Patrick's Church, Rosslare Harbour on 22nd June 1980, by Bishop Donal Herlihy.

    He ministered in Cushinstown from 8th September 1980, before being appointed to Kilmore Quay on 31st August 1981. In 1987, 1988, and 1989 he was involved in setting up Christian Youth Rallies in Kilmore Quay. He was also a member of the Diocesan Catechetical team. He completed four years study in psychology and qualified as a psychotherapist in 1994. He was religion teacher in Bridgetown Vocational School from 1989 - 2003. In Kilmore Quay he was associated with the local Development Association and was involved in the building of the new Stella Maris Community Centre (1993-94) and the Millennium Garden (1999-2001).
